Mosaic seminar
Our goal is, during the creation of the mosaic and through the methodology of using construction materials, to become familiar with them and to understand the overall image and the possibilities of the material.
Also, learning to organize the necessary individual workshop for the construction of the various projects.
Can I attend the seminar individually / alone?
No. It is necessary to create a group of at least 4 people.
Maximum number per group 10 people.
When do the seminar classes take place?
Each annual course cycle lasts 28 weeks and includes one four-hour class per week. The seminar usually takes place from October to May. The detailed program is announced at the beginning of each academic year.
CURRICULUM
1st annual cycle
- Introduction and familiarization with mosaic materials (marble, ceramic, glass tesserae).
- Exploration of possibilities offered by tesserae and tools used for cut and shape.
- Learning how to organize a personal mosaic workshop.
- Creation of a mosaic using the indirect method of tessellation and the application of mortar.
- Creation of mosaic replicas based on existing works from different historical periods, in A4 format.
- Presentation and study of ancient, Byzantine, and contemporary mosaic artworks.
CURRICULUM
2nd annual cycle
- Creation of a mosaic portrait replica.
- Creation of a mosaic portrait using the indirect tessellation method (previous knowledge from the 1st cycle is required).
- Cutting tesserae into smaller pieces (tesserae technique).
- Mortars.
- Creation of a mosaic artwork based on the students’ own original drawings.
- Presentation and study of ancient, Byzantine, and contemporary mosaic artworks, with observation of tessellation techniques and discussion on how mosaic composition and style evolved throughout different historical periods.
