gemmology

Gemmology is the specialty that deals with the identification and valuation of gemstones and the recognition of any enhancement treatments they may have undergone. It is the scientific branch of mineralogy that has evolved and is one of the most important sections of Geology.

The gemmologist is asked to examine the optical, physical and chemical properties of the materials, using a microscope, refractometer, polaroscope, dichroscope, ultraviolet rays, in order to identify the precious material he is examining and decide on its species and variety.

With gemmology one discovers the precious world of stones, such as diamond, emerald, ruby, pearl, amber, tourmaline, garnet...
